Barbara Holmes Featured Contributor in CondoNews of the Golden Horseshoe
Barbara Holmes is a featured contributor to the Winter 2012 edition of CondoNews of the Golden Horseshoe. In her article “Holiday Decorations in Condominiums,” Barbara discusses the need for condominium corporations to have reasonable rules in place that specifically govern holiday decorations in condominiums.
“When enacting rules, board members must ensure that all rules are reasonable. Boards must ensure that all residents are treated equally by either allowing holiday decorations for each religion (don’t want to raise discrimination issues) or restricting decorations to seasonal, non-religious items.”
Barbara also talks about the importance of communicating with owners, both before and after the rules are enacted.
“Before enacting rules management can obtain feedback from the community by distributing a survey and then following it up with committees and information meetings. Owners are more likely to abide by rules when they feel that they have had some input and that their concerns were addressed.”
